I did not anticipate that through the M.ed program that I would be learning about design function and am please to be doing so. I am excited and intimidated to be creating a logo and must admit that I have a lot to learn. I am drawn to clever logos that play on words. The Killed logo above, for example, is hilarious to me. I have no idea what it is a logo for, but I am intrigued and will not quickly forget it. I also like logos that can lend themselves to symbolic representation, like Apple's logo. Obviously it is a simple, clean image, but it is also an image of a common household item. This association imprints the idea that technology, specifically Apple products, will also be made common household items. I also like the association of the apple with education, but am not certain that this is a universal symbol. There is however the universal association of the taking a bite of an apple and then gaining knowledge. I have no idea if all of this was intentional, but it certainly resonated with me. So much is communicated in something so simple.
I am hoping to create an image that is clean and simple. One that directly tells my audience what they are looking into. I am interested in colors that are associated with calm, blue, or nature, green. I want the icon to be youthful as it is for the educators of young children. I have been doing a sort of word association in order to brainstorm images. I want the image to be clever, but not corny. Straight forward, but not boring. |
