I was able to create a video in two hours! I know it needs some work; music, more real pictures if I can get them, and I am sure my cohort will let me know what else can be tweaked. But it was much easier than I ever imagined. Here's how you do it, you hit up a friend. A friend that has all the gear, a techie friend, a friend who also happens to be a professional photographer and who has a recording device. So yes, it was easy, easy and much faster than I would have anticipated. Everyone needs this kind of friend. He had never used the iMovie tool before either so we navigated it together. It all seemed so intuitive. We looked up stock photos to download, dropped them in iMovie. I was able to do the voice in one take but I think there may be some noise coming from the chair. The pauses in my voice helped to line up the images with the words. I was pretty pleased with the product and that is not at all how I thought this would go.
As far as next steps, again, I am eager to hear suggestions from my cohort members and to see their videos as well. Seeing what others are doing can be so inspiring. I want to add some calming/spa-like music. Also, I am still wanting to get some authentic footage, or at least photos of students using the apps mentioned in the video, but the summer school session is running out! I think I only have two more days! Yikes! I went to a meditation class today and I was thrilled that a young girl took the class too. She and her mom were happy to let me ask her a few questions on video, but it all proved to be useless footage. The instructor told me that the Monday night class draws on a lot of young people, so I will look into the time of the class and see if I can make it. Another option may be to call up some former students' parents to see if they are willing to have a play date at school (maybe offer lunch) so that I can get some videos and photos that way.
Fortunately, my friend said he will help me take this to production.
